Dr. LynAnn Mastaj
By the time she was in 6th grade, Dr. LynAnn Mastaj dreamed of becoming an orthodontist. She was born and raised in Holyoke, Massachusetts. While attending Holyoke High School, Dr. Mastaj was an All-American Athlete, playing varsity field hockey, basketball and tennis. In addition to graduating at the top of her class, she won several state competitions for speech and debate. Dr. Mastaj was inducted into the National Honor Society and won the Margret Highland award, a prestigious academic scholarship.
Dr. Mastaj subsequently attended Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts to pursue her love of science, sports and art. The prestigious liberal arts college afforded her the opportunity to continue both her academic studies and her athletic career. Dr. Mastaj was a chemistry major but she also studied biology, studio art and art history. While attending Wheaton College Dr. Mastaj received the Caroline Cutler Metcalf Award for being an outstanding scholar-athlete. In 1983, she won the Massachusetts State and New England Regional Tennis Tournaments and was a participant in the NCAA Championship in Claremont, California. Dr. Mastaj served as the president of the Wheaton College Student Union and won the Senior Athletic Award. The Cum Laude graduate further realized her goal of becoming an orthodontist by enrolling in The University of Pennsylvania Dental School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr. LynAnn Mastaj attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, where she earned her DMD degree (Doctor of Dental Medicine). During her dental school training, she gave up tennis to work as a dental assistant, serve as vice president of her class, participated in community outreach dental programs, and taught in the dental clinic. In 1988, The University of Pennsylvania Dental School presented Dr. Mastaj with The International College of Dentists Award for Outstanding Achievement.
Upon completing her D.M.D., Dr. Mastaj was accepted into a general practice residency program at York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, where she engaged in oral surgery research, trained in emergency medicine, internal medicine and anesthesia. Dr. Mastaj became certified in advanced trauma life support (ATLS) and sedation dentistry.
Dr. Mastaj received her post-graduate specialty training in orthodontics from Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. In addition to receiving post doctoral graduate courses at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Mastaj participated in animal research on cleft palate bone grafting. During her residency she also published a pioneering article on infection control in orthodontics. Dr. Mastaj was a member of The American Board of Orthodontics and The American Association of Orthodontists. In 2001, Dr. Mastaj was elected to Who's Who in Professional Women.
Dr. LynAnn Mastaj has has over twenty years of dental experience practicing, teaching and lecturing. Her areas of expertise include growth and development, preventive and interception treatment, adult aesthetic orthodontics, orthognathic therapy (jaw surgery), and orthodontic-periodontal procedures (tooth and gum tissue alignment) and INVISALIGN (invisible braces)
A highly-skilled and personable orthodontist, Dr. Mastaj enjoys the art and science of creating beautiful smiles for both adults and children. LynAnn and her husband Ernesto, have two beautiful children, Michael and Mackenzie, with whom she enjoys swimming, skiing and playing tennis. Her other passions, besides orthodontics include cooking, gardening, decorating and traveling.
