Dental Implants

Implants have revolutionized contemporary dentistry.  When properly done, their success rate is close to 100%; providing a predictable alternative for the replacement of missing teeth. The technique utilizes titanium screws that are implanted in the jawbone.

Following a 3-4 month healing period, the implants become integrated within the host bone (hence the term “osseointegration”). The implants are then utilized to support artificial teeth, that with adequate planning and execution, may closely replicate the look, feel and function of natural teeth.

Dental implants are changing the way people live! With dental implants, people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh and enjoy life.

The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything and can smile with confidence, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved.

Additionally, recent advances allow implants to be placed immediately following tooth extraction, and in many cases a provisional restoration may be placed during the same appointment as well.  This technique, known as immediate loading, can significantly decrease treatment duration and discomfort.  We are currently involved in research to develop the next generation protocols for immediate implantation and loading.

The good news is that patients no longer have to endure the embarrassment of missing teeth following extractions!

The bone/titanium interface creates a strong foundation for artificial teeth.  And since implant components are manufactured from metal or Zirconia, they are impervious to dental decay.  In addition, implants can help prevent the progressive bone deterioration that occurs following the loss of teeth.

As an educated consumer, you should be aware that there are more than 40 implant systems currently available in the US.  Many of these systems do not have an established track record, and their success rates may thus vary.  At Esthetic Dentistry Specialists, we only utilize implants from the premier manufacturers, with documented long term success rates.  Our practice philosophy is to focus on quality rather than cost.

As good as they are however, implants are not without limitations.  In highly demanding situations, it may be more difficult to achieve ultimate esthetic results with implants and alternative techniques should be considered.  It is important therefore, that your dentist possess the knowledge and skill to evaluate and maximize the esthetic potential of implant therapy; and the experience to conversely avoid the misrepresentation of therapeutic outcomes.  For more information please visit:  Academy of Osseointegration
